Rahab lived in the shadows of Jericho’s walls, known as a prostitute and accustomed to watching men come and go. But one night, two strangers arrived carrying more than secrets — they carried the rumor of a God who parted seas.

They were spies sent by Joshua, the leader of the Israelities, successor of Moses. When the spies had been made, Rahab hid the men beneath stalks of flax that had been left to dry on her roof. Her home was built into the cities wall, and under the cover of darkness, she lowered them from her window by a scarlet rope. But before their feet touched the ground, she made her confession: “The Lord your God — He is God.”

That rope remained in her window as a covenant. When Jericho fell, her home stood untouched — marked by protection.

And the woman once defined by her past was remembered instead for her faith. The Hebrew script in this illustration is the word - hagana - meaning protection.
